Brother Arthur “Jimmy” Gibbs Sr. was born April 4, 1932 in Silco, GA to the late Lue Gibbs and Lily Mae Murray Gibbs. He grew up in Folkston where he received his formal education from the public school system.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the van ministry, usher ministry and was a dedicated Sunday School Scholar. He was also a member of Euclid Lodge 169, PHA.
Brother Gibbs retired from Gilman Paper Company in St. Marys, Ga. in May 1990 with over forty years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Mary Walton Gibbs of Folkston; a son, Arthur Gibbs Jr. (Diana) of Waycross,Ga.; a daughter, Charlette Jones (Willie Mack) of Brunswick, Ga.; step children, Larry Smith Sr. (Minerva) of St. George, Ga., Henry Smith Sr. (Apostle Artie), Eva Sims (Vernell), Cheryl Zow all of Folkston, Ga., Kutana Sanders of Robengena, Tx., Nathaniel Austin (Atheel) of Kingsland, Ga.; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; special cousins, Lois Ann Moody of Folkston; nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church 18 Mt. Carmel St., Folkston, Ga. with the church pastor, Rev. Antwon Nixon, bringing words of comfort. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
