Coleman C. Wingate passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, after courageously battling a long illness at the age of 78. Born on July 21, 1947, in Waycross, Georgia (Ware County) to the late Mary Barker Wingate Coleman C. Wingate Sr.
Cole attended center high school part of his teenage years. He later decided to pursue his love of music by moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he graduated with his high school diploma while living with his aunt. Later, he enrolled in rigorous performing art classes, where he found his love of playing the piano, including being inspired by some of the greatest composers in history, such as: Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. After he mastered his craft of being a pianist, he decided to enroll at Juilliard School of Music in New York City, to pursue his dream of being a pianist and composer of music. Unfortunately, before graduating from Juilliard, he was drafted into the Vietnam war and faced with unforeseen circumstances that ended his musical journey. Yet, even while serving, Coleman still continued to embrace life and possess an unwavering love for family.
In addition, to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his sister Mary Lee Wingate, two aunts: Pearl Barker Hicks and Lula Barker Hall, and Uncle Lawrence Barker. Those left to cherish his memory include his niece Mrs. Tammy Joyner and husband Mr. Roy Gray, his special cousins: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gordon Jr. Of Waycross, Georgia; Latrelle Prude of New York City; Mrs. Ethel Mosley of Jacksonville, FL; Bishop and Mrs. Clarence, Adamson of Waycross, Georgia; and Jackie Price and daughters Tyra and Lauren Price.
