DEACON CHARLES WILLIAMS Obituary

Deacon Charles Edward Williams, affectionately known as “Smiley”, was born on February 28, 1956, in Waynesville, Georgia, to the late Tolly Williams and Mother Edith Hazel Frazier Williams. He was raised in the Charlton County School System and later completed some technical college training.

Smiley dedicated his life to hard work, service, and faith. He worked faithfully for 32 years in the pump mill industry with Union Camp and West Fraser Lumber Company. He also served for three years as a Charlton County Board of Education school bus driver, where he was known for acknowledging students’ birthdays and making them feel special. In addition, he was a proud entrepreneur, operating his own lawn service for over 20 years.

Deacon "Smiley" accepted Christ at an early age and lived a devoted Christian life. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Finance Director, Maintenance Overseer, Landscaper, and Second Sunday School Teacher. His commitment to his church family was steadfast, and he was deeply loved and respected for his dedication.

In his personal life, Smiley enjoyed fishing, especially with his beloved wife, Ms. Elvira Sharp Williams. That was their special time together making memories and reflecting on life.
He was an avid sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Dallas Cowboys in football and the Golden State Warriors in basketball. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for his family was immeasurable.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard Porter and Jesse Frazier.

Smiley leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Ms. Elvira Williams; daughters, Tina Latrell Williams, Jasmine Williams Shaughenessy, and Clinique Bryant Williams; two brothers, Devon Beal and Samuel Frazier (Wanda); one sister, Pastor Alphya Benefield (Arthur Jr.); his in-laws, Janie Mae Lambert and Elsie Mae Sharp; grandchildren, Ladeja Dolez, Omarion Williams, Khamira Dallas, and Khristian Dallas; two great-grandchildren, Gentlee Bolden and Chase Bolden; special friends, Arthur Benefield Jr., David Pender Sr., Edward Mincey, and Reverend Robert Alderman; and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family extends a special acknowledgement to the staff of Shands Hospital ICU for their care and compassion.

Smiley’s life was a true reflection of faith, love, and service—values that will live on through all who knew and loved him.
