Obituary

A time to be born:

Deacon Fred Downs Jones, Jr. was born August 8,1933 in Waycross, Georgia to the late Deacon Fred Jones, Sr. and Deaconess Grace Bryant Jones. He was the oldest son born to this union.

A time to love:

Deacon Fred Jones, Jr. married Mary L. Murray on March 2, 1956. This union was blessed with four children.

A time to live:

Deacon Jones received his education through the Waycross public school system where he was a graduate of the Center High School class of 1952. He was one of the first to graduate from Center High School in the 12th grade. Mr. Jones was drafted in 1955 and served in the United States Navy for 18 months. He was self-employed at Jones Radio & TV Services as a radio and TV technician where he retired after more than 40 years of faithful service. At an early age, Mr. Jones joined and was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Years later he became a deacon at Macedonia MBC. He was a faithful and active member where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board, devotional leader of noon day services for more than 20 years, member of brotherhood, bank depositor and church treasurer. Deacon Jones enjoyed sports and was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan. He loved his family and was very supportive of them.

A time to die:

On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, Deacon Jones transitioned to eternal life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Jones; sisters, Laurine Gibbs Dixon and Grace Melinda Jones, sisterin-law, Fay S. McKinnon; and brothers-in-law, Charles Smith, Calvin Hill, Sr. and Rev. Johnny Dixon.

A time to mourn:

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Deaconess Mary Jones; son Fred Jones, III of St. Petersburg, FL; daughters Viejah Mayo (Russell), Juan Johnson (Corry) both of Waycross, GA, and Dawn Fernander (Rev. McKennon) of Oviedo, FL; six grandchildren, Minister Rodrick Rowell (Robin) of Greensboro, NC; Rushea Mayo of Waycross, GA; Megan Foster (William) of Palm Springs, CA; Trinton Jones and Shannon Jones of Tampa, FL; and Shante Jones of Bremerton, WA; 11 great grand children; brother, Charles Jones (Willie Mae) of Lancaster, CA; adopted brother, Cary Maurice Jones of Sacramento, CA; sisters, Mary Brooks of Jacksonville, FL and Jimmie Malloy of Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law, Charlie Mae Hill of Waycross, GA; bonus daughter, Shiela Foster; bonus son, Kelvin Bawlson (Karen); host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
