Deacon Sylvester Styles Kelly was born December 13, 1931, to the late Maggie Styles and Elijah Kelly in Odum, Georgia. He attended school in Waycross, Georgia.
Deacon Kelly worked at Dixie Road Builders where he retired after 35 years of service. He later volunteered his mechanical services (as he would say) with Grady’s Repair Shop.
He was a dedicated Deacon and head of the Trustee Board at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Kelly also served as a drummer for his home church and Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Waycross, GA.
He loved fishing and playing cards especially when his family was around so he could talk his “trash”, because everyone knew he was a great storyteller.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Armstrong Kelly, special friend Elizabeth King and sister Ruby Reese Styles.
Deacon Kelly is survived by his children LeRoy Styles, Blackshear, GA, Lovetta Moore, Waycross, GA, Dianne Garrison, Jacksonville, FL, Shirley Townsend, Waycross, GA, Sylvia Ann Johnson, Valdosta, GA, Corine Murry, Jacksonville, FL, Jimmy Scriven, Green Cove, FL, Mickey Scriven, Waycross, GA, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren to cherish his memories.
As a brother his sweet loving memory lives on forever treasured in the hearts of Gloria Alderman, Seattle, WA, Thelma Hunter (Jerimiah), Richland, OH, Pastor Emma Pinkins, Farrell, PA, Thomas Styles, Jr., Farrell, PA, and Debra Gadson (Jimmy), Hermitage, PA and Waycross, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God children and friends.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Hazzard Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Final and most sacred arrangements are entrusted to the professional care of Fluker Funeral Home, 985 Ossie Davis Parkway, Waycross, Georgia.
