Dr. Marian M. Elbert, age 76, of Waycross, GA transitioned on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at her residence after an illness.
She was born on May 9, 1943 in Waycross,Ga. to the late Mr. Clark Elbert and Mrs. Louisa Thomas Cooper.
She received her formal education from the Waycross Public School System and graduated from Center High School in 1961., and continued her educational accomplishments as follows: BA, Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University, CAU), Atlanta, Ga.; M.Ed., Georgia State University, Atlanta, Ga.; MBA, Miami University, Miami, Fl; MBA and Ed.D., Harvard University, Boston, Ma.
Her extensive endeavors in academics lead her to an accomplished career in the following: Student worker, Post Office, Clark College; Administrative Assistant, Dean of Students, ; Head of Title lll Programs; Institutional Associate for Development, Clark College; Associate Dean of School of Arts and Sciences, CAU; vice President for Academic Affair, Huston-Tellotson Unversity, Austin, Tx; Vice President for Academic Affairs, Wiley College, Marshall, Tx.; where she retired in 2013 and moved back to her childhood home in Waycross to be closer to her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers: Harold Elbert (Sandra) of Waycross,Ga., Cleveland R. Cooper (Lanell) of Lompoc, Ca., Kenneth A. Cooper (Darlene) of Schertz, Tx.; sisters, Rosa Ann Cooper of Waycross, Sheilah Dodson of Birmingham, Al. and Joyce Elbert of Madison, Ms., nephews, nieces, cousins, other relative and friends include her close and dear friend, Dr. Vanessa Siddle-Walker of Atlanta, Ga.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday January 9, 2020 in Hazzard Hill Cemetery. 910 Centeral Ave., Waycross. Friends are being received at the Cooper residence, 902 Cedar Street.
Final and most sacred arrangements are entrusted to the professional care of Fluker Funeral Home. 985 Ossie Davis Parkway, Waycross, GA.
