Mrs. Elsie Walker Flournoy, age 87, of McDonough, GA (formerly of Waycross, GA) entered heavens courts on Monday, November 11, 2019 after an illness. She was born August 6, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to the late H. Clarence and Elsie Viola Walker. She graduated from Winston-Salem High School (North Caroline) in 1949. She received her Blahelor of Arts degree at Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C. in 1935. For thirty-five years, Elsie taught school in the Atkinson County School System before retiring in 1993. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a pianist and a member of the Choir. She was also a member of several community choirs citywide.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her oldest son, Atlas Flournoy.
She leaves a beautiful family to cherish legacy; a loving husband of sixty-five years, George Atla Flournoy of Waycross; a daughters, Donna Flournoy Nevins of Jonesboro,Ga.; two sons, Ahnad Flournoy (Bonita) of McDonough, Ga. and Vada Flournoy of Jonesboro, Ga.;grandchildren, Nahshon Hughley, Krista Nevins, Aja Flournoy, Shaina Flournoy and Candice Alick; three great grandchildren and a host of cherished friends.
A celebration of life service for Sister Elsie Walker Flournoy will be held Saturday November 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church 702 Arnold McKinney Drive. The church pastor, Rev. Fer-Rell M. Malone Sr., will bring words of comfort.
Public visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fluker Funeral Home 985 Ossie Davis Parkway.
Mrs. Flournoy will lie in repose Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. to the hour of service. Interment will be in Hazzard Hill Cemetery.
Final and most sacred arrangements are entrusted to the professional care of Fluker Funeral Home.
