Sis. Ethel L. Mayo, age 90, of Waycross, GA transitioned from this life on May 9, 2020 after an illness..
She was born January 26, 1930 to the late Early Smith and Harriett Daniels Smith in Douglas, Ga.
She received her formal education from the Douglas Public School System and graduated from Carver High School. She further her matriculation at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Al. where she was a cheerleader .
She later moved to Waycross where she met and married the late Savalia Mayo of Rocky Mount, N.C. This union was blessed with five children.
She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church where she served dutifully as secretary of the Senior Usher Board, Treasurer of the Mission and head of the Kitchen Committee.
Sis. Mayo was a devoted wife and a loving mother who displayed her love through her culinary skills in the kitchen. She had a passionate zeal for plants and flowers.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by seven siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Anthony Mayo (Tonya) of Jacksonville, Fl., Deaconess Harriet Roundtree (Deacon Nehemiah), Russell Mayo (Vijah), Deaconess Mary Davis (Deacon Joseph) all of Waycross and Charlotte Mayo-Burse (Michael) of Columbus, Ga.; a brother, Clinton Smith (Lee) of Yonkers, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Willie Swanson of Douglas,Ga.; sister-in-law, Canarie Smith of Wateburg, Ct.; grandchildren, great grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Hazzard Hill Cemetery with her pastor, Reverend Dr. Norris Woods, bringing words of comfort.
