Henry Lee Hudson

Mr. Henry Lee Hudson, age 84, of Waycross, GA, transitioned from this earthly life on January 15, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on November 27, 1935 in Homerville,GA, to the late Rev. Albert Hudson, Sr. and Marie Williams Hudson. He was one of nine children born in this loving family. He grew up in Waycross, Ga. where he received his formal education and graduated from Center High School in 1954. His mother wanted the best for her children, so she moved to New York City where they would have access to a great college education.

He started his college journey at City College in New York City in 1954 where he attended until he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1958. After completing his service to his country in 1961 he was employed with the U.S. Postal System. He later returned to City College and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Sociology. After he graduated he worked as a counselor and as assistant program director at Harlem Hospital.In 1975, he was hired by Monefiore Medical Center to develop and implement one of the world's first hospital based employee assistant programs and served as Director for more than thirty six years. 

In 1973, he was joined in holy matrimony to his long time love, Zadie Jackson. He was joined Kelly Temple COGIC in Harlem, N.Y. in 1985 where he served in different capacities for over thirty years including working the Kitchen Ministry, served as president of the Men's Department, member of Turing Point Ministry, Health Ministry, a Care Croup Leader, Church Counselor and a Deacon. He also started a counseling service for the church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings ;Albert, Bernice, Dorothea, Betty and John.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Zadie Hudson; three daughters, Laverne Hicks, Lakisha Benbow (Joseph) and Melissa George (Ricardo); nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings, Odessa Owens, Jackie Hudson an Richard Hudson (Irene); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Hudson will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at  Mason Temple Church of God In Christ. 800 Daniel Street. Waycross, Ga. where Elder James Pharmes is pastor, his niece Apostle Janice Thomas is presiding and Elder Luther Jackson will bring words of comfort.
