Mrs. Jacquelyn Battle Tillman was born February 3,1942 in Waycross, Georgia, as the youngest of ten children born to the late Harry Battle Sr. and Faye Bell Bellamy Battle.
She received her formal education from the Waycross Public School System and graduated from Center High School in 1960.. She was a very active Center High Tiger. She was Miss Homecoming of 1960, lead drum majorette for the band and was a guard on the girl's basketball team. She furthered her her education at Albany State College, now know as Albany State University, in Albany, Ga. where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She was employed as a teacher with Appling County (Ga.) School System for 31 years of dedicated service. Over the years, Mrs. Tillman taught many generations of students, impacting their lives in an inspiring way.
On July 15, 1967 she was joined in holy matrimony to Reverend Burlester Lamar Tillman Jr. This union was blessed with three children.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and served at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church in Waycross, Ga. After marring Rev. Tillman, she joined Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Baxley, Ga. where she fulfilled countless positions throughout the church. Some of her most cherished were Youth Director, Church Secretary and Financial Secretary. She was also active with the local United Methodist Women and the church choir.
On Tuesday July 28, 2020 God called his child - Jacquelyn Battle Tillman - to her heavenly home. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Ruth Rood, Lillian Walker, Maudean Malone, Laurine Dixon, Faye McDew, Harry Battle Jr. and Mary Evelyn Hill.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Andrea K. Tillman of Waycross, Ga.; two sons, Anthony L. Tillman (Amy) of Baxley, Ga. and Allen M. Tillman (Devon) of Hilton Head, S.C.; six grandchildren, Octavius Gillard, Tyler Rogers, Adrian Caldwell, Aiden Tillman, Daniel Perry and Kimberly Perry; a brother, Samuel battle of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Bette Dunson of Albany, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Clarence Hill Sr. of Miami, Fl.; a sister-i-law, Nancy Tillman-Franklin (Charles) of Hinesville, Ga.; a special nephew raised as her brother, William Rood Jr.; special nieces, Miracle McGauley and Shanada German: a special son-in-law, Karl Rogers; God children, Sabrina Ziamon, Mozell Rooks, Anthony Adair and Lucina Jackson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Old Field memorial garden, Old Field Cemetery Road Baxley, Ga. with her nephew, Rev. Fer-Rell M. Malone Sr. Pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Waycross, bring words of comfort. Public visitation will be held Friday August 7, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fluker Funeral Home 985 Ossie Davis Parkway, Waycross, Ga.
