Mr. George Adlai Munford, affectionately known as “ Big G” to some, “Papa” and “Uncle George” was born November 4, 1952, in Waycross, Georgia and transitioned this life suddenly on June 21, 2025. He was born to the late Betty Jean Norwood Munford and Sammy B. Munford, Sr.
A life-long resident of Waycross, Georgia, George attended Center High School. George worked as a Truck Driver for 25 years, at various companies, McNeal Distributors, Georgia Block and Brick and Dixie Redi-Mix.
Big G was a man full of life, passion, and unforgettable personality. A true lover of speed and sound, Big G had an unshakable love for motorcycles, race cars, and the video game Need for Speed. He also had a deep appreciation for music, which filled his days and lifted his spirits. But above all, he was a man who loved making memories. Whether behind the lens of a camera snapping photos or gathered with family sharing laughs, Big G cherished life’s moments. He was a character in the best sense — always fixing something, cracking a joke, or chasing after the next adventure.
He had a notorious sweet tooth and a legendary appetite for his favorite snacks — cookies, Mike and Ike’s, pork rinds, his mama’s bread pudding, and his special treat: honey buns and sauce meat. In time, he turned his love for sweets into a talent of his own, becoming known for baking the softest and most delicious pound cakes around.
Big G was also a devoted sports fan with California in his heart. His teams were the Rams, the Lakers, and the Dodgers — win or lose, he stayed loyal. He was a proud bodybuilder, once earning the title of Mr. Waycross at Birch Brothers Gym, and he had a fighter’s spirit with a knack for boxing. Despite what many believed, he had no love for fishing — a fact he made clear under his breath with a smile.
Big G was truly one of a kind — strong, spirited, and full of heart. His legacy will live on in the memories he created, the laughter he inspired, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. He was an inspiration to all and touched many lives. He had a gift of finding humor in any situation and could brighten the room by making people smile and laugh especially when telling stories about a situation or a joke. He will be missed but never forgotten. We will never forget Uncle George going in his pocket and giving us candy. We will never forget our long talks with our brother and uncle and our rides on his Gold Wing motorcycle. We will miss “Daddy, Papa, Big G, Uncle George,” bringing joy to our lives. A beloved soul who touched many lives; a heart of gold stopped beating but now resting in the arms of Jesus.
A loving and devoted daddy, grandfather, brother, and uncle, “Big G” will be truly missed. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Eva Mae Norwood, and one brother, Sammy B. Munford, Jr.
He leaves behind a host of loved ones to cherish his memories, one daughter, Jennifer L. Munford of Waycross, GA, one grand-daughter, Kailani Holmes of Columbia, SC, his “Muh-in-law” Lucille Freeman of Waycross, GA, a God-son, Andrew Fluker, Jr of Waycross, GA, two-brothers, Michael Munford of Waycross, GA, and Tony Munford (Gail) of Blackwood, NJ; four sisters, Sandra D. Clark, Angela (Mona) Munford, Pamela Goodman, and Tonja Munford all of Waycross, GA, his former wife, Sharon Freeman Munford of Waycross, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and “The Boys.”
. Please keep the family in prayer during this difficult time.
