Mr. Joseph "San" Santrasa Holmes, 49, was born on August 23, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia. With a spirit marked by unwavering faith and quiet strength, he fought a good fight, finished his course with dignity, and kept the faith until the end. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Joseph peacefully transitioned from this life and stepped into eternal rest to receive his crown from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Affectionately known as “San,” he was the beloved and only child of Janie Ruth Holmes. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, San grew up in a home overflowing with love, guidance, and warmth. His upbringing instilled in him a compassionate heart, a servant’s spirit, and a deep commitment to family and community. San attended Benjamin E. Mays High School, in the Atlanta Public School System. As an adult, San embodied the spirit of entrepreneur ship by launching a private lawn care and errand service dedicated to supporting his neighborhood. He took great pride in providing consistent, dependable service to those around him, often going above and beyond to assist those in need. For San, work was more than labor, it was an expression of care.
A skilled and passionate cook, San mastered the kitchen at a young age and was especially known for his gift on the grill. His culinary tal ents became legendary among his family, and he was quickly crowned the “Grill Master” at every gathering, particularly during the annual Holmes Chapel Family Reunion. His flavorful meals brought people together, and his grill became a symbol of joy, laughter, and connection.
San's life was a testament to kindness, quiet strength, and faithful devotion. He never met a stranger, and his presence brought light and peace to all who knew him. Though he has departed this earthly life, the impact he made on his family and community will remain forever etched in our hearts.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unforgettable memories, cherished deeply by his devoted mother, Janie Ruth Holmes; his loving aunts, Yvonne Holmes, Bessie Watt, and Patricia (Xavier) Vic tor; his uncles, Joseph Holmes and Benjamin Holmes; and a host of cousins, extended family members, and close friends who will continue to honor his life through love, laughter, and the stories they share.
A public funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in Homerville, GA at Holmes Chapel Church. Please keep the family in prayer during this difficult time.
