Mr. Otis Armstrong III, affectionately known by all as "Jabo," was born on January 26, 1956, to the late Hattie Mae Armstrong. As a child, he was lovingly referred to as “my boy” by his mother, being her only son of four girls. He received his formal education in Waycross, graduating from Waycross High School, with the Class of 1974.
Jabo led a diverse and fulfilling career, working with Waycross Molding, serving as a Ware County school bus driver, and contributing to Flanders Meat Company and J&J Masonry alongside his longtime friend, Mr. Herbert Steverson. However, his true passion was being a certified mechanic, a role he loved and excelled in.
A man of many hobbies, Jabo enjoyed fishing, farming, bikers’ gatherings, races and most of all, motorcycles. Yet under a car is where you can find Jabo. The greatest of all these was having children and becoming a grandfather and great-grandfather, and, most profoundly, marrying the love of his life, Essie Lee Armstrong, after 48 years of companionship.
Throughout his life, he found immense joy in the time he spent with his family. Enjoying family reunions and cookout. As an elder in the family, Jabo had a special love for two of his great-grandchildren: Corinthian Lee Jr. (known as CJ), to whom he would often say, "Come to Georgia to see me," and his little princess Miss Jazlyn Brown. He also cherished his time with his great grandnephew, whom he affectionately called “Mook”.
Jabo leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories for his family. He is survived by his wife Essie Lee Armstrong; children: LaTravis Rowell Sr., Yotta (Gene) Burton, Jamoya Hall, Octavia (Hollie) Armstrong, and Lindsey Emerson; his stepchildren: Stacie Lee, LaStre Lee, and Michelle (Richard) Love; siblings: Edna Pickett, Veronica (Renall) Evans, Ramona Poole, and Maud (Herbert) Curry; sister-in-law, Virginia Durham, and her husband, Yancey Durham; aunt, Mattie Gibson; and uncle, Jewel Armstrong. He is also remembered with love by his 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jabo’s life was a testament to hard work, family, and passion. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
