MR. ROBERT LUCAS Obituary

Robert Darryl Lucas, 59, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Born in Hahira, Georgia, on February 24, 1965, Robert, affectionately known as Darryl, was the beloved son of Bishop Edward J. Lucas, Sr. and Mother Laura Harmon Lucas (both deceased).

Darryl met and married Lasonja Lucas, with whom he shared the joy of raising two children: Cichozious (“Chozi”) Lucas and Rhalia (“Rae”) Lucas. His educational journey took him to Paine College, where he became a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Gamma Beta Chapter in Fall of 1984. In 2005, Darryl returned to academia, completing his degree in Technical Management at DeVry University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Darryl's professional career led him to Eaton Corporation in Atlanta, GA, where he worked for several years. After receiving a promotion, Darryl moved to Sumter, S.C. where he met and married his second wife, Gloria Lucas. Together, they welcomed a son, Owen Lucas and Darryl gained two bonus daughters, Latoya Workman and Shaniqua McKnight. Darryl's career eventually brought him to Columbus, OH. He finished his career as the Inside Sales Manager with Wesco Distribution in Jacksonville, Florida, where he continued to thrive both personally and professionally.

Darryl was a man of many passions—his love for Mustangs, music, most importantly, his children was evident to all who knew him. He cherished his role as “Lil Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, who filled his life with laughter and joy during their cherished time together. Darryl was incredibly intelligent and had a great love for history, science and knowledge in general.

Darryl is preceded in death by one brother Bernard B. Lucas (Dora), is survived by his daughters, Cichozious Lucas of Fredericksburg, VA, and Rhalia Lucas (Keenan) of Tallahassee, FL; his son, Owen Lucas of Columbus, OH; 3 grandchildren: Rhalen, Khirel, and Khalia; his siblings, Edward J. Lucas Jr. (Linda, Deceased), Gloria J. Lucas Smith, Carolyn Fluker (Carlton, deceased), Essie D. Young (Lester, deceased), Larry J. Lucas (Hilda, deceased), Anthony M. Lucas (Carolyn), Linda Lucas Nana (Roger), and Min. Eric W. Lucas (Deborah); his friend Ms. Onniebel Floyd; as well as numerous friends, relatives, and loved ones.

Darryl’s memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, joy, and commitment to family will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation Friday, August 9, 2024, from 3-5 pm in the Gethsemane Holiness Church, 755 S Lee St., Valdosta, GA 31601; Graveside service will be Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3945 N. Valdosta Road, Valdosta, GA 31602.
