Annette Burton Williams was born on May 26, 1940, in Alapaha, Georgia, the fourth child of the late James W. Burton, Sr.and Rosa Lee Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mattie Lee Burton and Mary Lou Burton Lee;her brother, James Weston Burton, Jr. She was married to Earl Williams, Jr. in 1976, who preceded her in death.
A Life of Dedication
Annette attended school in the Ware County School System and graduated from Homerville High and Elementary School in 1959. The 1957 Homerville High and Elementary girls basketball team, of when she was a proud member, was recently recognized for winning Clinch County first state championship by claiming the class CGIA crown. The team was later inducted into the Clinch County Sports Hall of Fame, an accomplishment Annette was proud of. Annette’s love for basketball was profound, and she always made time to watch her favorite teams.
Annette was also an avid bowler and a devoted member of the Kings and Queens Bowling League for more than 30 years. She was employed by Chatham Area Transit as a bus driver for 22 years, where she formed many lasting friendships and earned great respect from her coworkers. Her commitment and outstanding safety record led to her induction into theChatham Area Transit Safety Hall of Fame on December 7, 2002.
A Legacy of Love
Annette’s deep love for her family inspired the very first Jones Family Reunion, held in Homerville, Georgia, in 2023. Shewas also well known for her exceptional cooking, often sharing meals with the residents of The Woods Apartments, where shelived for many years. Annette had countless friends and shared a particularly close bond with her dear friend, Mary Oglesby, who was by her side when she transitioned from this life.
Cherished Memories
Annette peacefully departed this life on Monday, October 13, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 85.
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Three nieces - Rosa Session of Waycross, Georgia; Minnie (Bartow) Williams of Naylor, Georgia; and Cynthia (Allen) Gray of Columbus, Georgia; One nephew — Antonio W. Burton; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great-niece — Ayla Adamson; and a host of cousins and sorrowing friends.
Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
