Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Lee Sumner left her earthly home on Sunday, February 18, 2024, in Waycross, GA. Family and friends are being received at the home of her sister Mrs. Eloise Lee at 1413 Colley Street, Waycross, GA.
Dorothy Sumner, born on April 16, 1948, to the beloved Issac Lee Sr. and Janie R. Lee, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Raised in Waycross, Ware County, Dorothy was a pillar of strength and affection as a mother, daughter, sister, friend, and neighbor, always putting her family first. She treasured every moment spent with her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her loving and sincere personality touched everyone she met.
Dorothy's journey was preceded in death by her parents, Issac Lee Sr. and Janie R. Lee; her brother, Johnny C. Lee; sister, Lucinda Lee; and son, Franz Maurice Shelton Sr. Despite these losses, her spirit of love and devotion lives on.
She is survived by her loving family, including her children, James Wesley Shelton (married to Dr. Cynthia) of Orlando, FL, and Kenneth Lamar Shelton (married to Tabitha) of Fayetteville, NC. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jamesha (married to Richard) Kennedy of Warner Robins, GA, Janae Shelton of Jacksonville, FL, Christopher Downs of Orlando, FL, Kenneth Jr., Kenton, Kentrae, and Kennedi Shelton all of Fayetteville, NC, Franz Maurice Shelton Jr. of Waycross, GA, Keria Coxs of Statesboro, GA, Paris Butler of Dallas, GA, and Brooklyn Shelton of Waycross, GA. Her great-grandchildren, Tristian Hacket and Anleigh Janae Shelton of Warner Robins, GA, Kaiden Shelton, Karter Shelton and Khari Shelton all of Fayetteville, NC, and Tristian Shelton of Waycross, GA, will also hold her memory dear.
Dorothy's brothers, Issac Lee Jr. of Saint Petersburg, FL, Nathaniel Lee Sr., John T. Lee Sr. (married to Diana), and Ed H. Lee, all of Waycross, GA, along with her sisters, Eloise and Edna Lee of Waycross, GA, remain to honor her memory. She also leaves behind two aunts, Mrs. Alvester Tripp and Mrs. Mary Williams of Waycross, GA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish the memories they made with Dorothy.
Her life was a testament to the power of unconditional love and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. Dorothy Sumner will be deeply missed but her legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A viewing is planned for Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Fluker Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in Waycross, GA. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, 11:00 AM, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1700 Martin Luther King Dr., Waycross, GA 31501. Burial is to follow immediately in the Oakland Cemetery.
