MRS. MANZELLA (RICHARDSON) KORNEGAY

Manzella “Cookie” Kornegay, loving daughter of the late Iantha Ruth McDonald (formerly Richardson) and the late George Walter Richardson Sr, was born on August 1, 1953 in New York, New York. She received her formal education from the New York school system and graduated from Rockingham High School. In 1972, Cookie was united in holy matrimony to the late James Ronald Kornegay, Sr; from this union of 44 years James Ronald Kornegay Jr. and Angela Kornegay-Henry was born.

Cookie spent her years serving as a devoted military wife until James Sr. retired from active service in 1991. She also established herself as a career service manager with years of exemplary work within the retail industry. Cookie had an infectious laugh, and always held space to give and show love to all of whom came in contact with her.

Cookie departed this life on Sunday, April 17, 2023 after courageously battling an illness at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, in Fayetteville, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ronald Kornegay Sr; her mother and father Iantha Ruth and George Walter Richardson Sr; and her brother, George Walter Richardson Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include: her son, James Ronald Kornegay Jr.; daughter, Angela Kornegay- Henry (Dwayne); mother-in-law, Betty J. Kornegay; grandchildren, Krystina Cache Coleman, Justin Tashon Kornegay, James Ronald Kornegay III, Andre Marcel Harrison Jr., Princess Iantha Harrison, Jayden Ronell Kornegay, Uzziah Kornegay; bonus grandchildren Dominique Williams, Brandon Ware, Kayla Young,  Ryen Henry, Justin Henry; great-grandchild Kailyn Chaunte` Coleman; brother, Ronald Matthew Richardson Sr (Patricia); sister, Bertha Ann Brickhouse; 4 brother-in-laws, Calvin “Mickey” Kornegay Jr., Reginald “Red” Kornegay (Calamity), Billy Leon Garnes, Michael Andre Kornegay (Sharon); 3 sister-in-laws Sharon Diane Kornegay, Millicent Faye Wilcox (Donnie), Deborah Denease Kornegay; aunt, Mary Young; goddaughters Tavares Wilkerson (Shaun), Carmen Moore (Arnold); godson Kenneth Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
