MRS. NANCY WILSON Obituary

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 1:1

After winter turned to spring, our beloved Nancy Wilson, a woman whose life was a testament to love, devotion, and the simple joys of living, took flight with her wings on Saturday, March 22, 2025, to leave this world behind. Born to loving parents, William and Annie Lee Slaughter Mercer, Nancy grew  up surrounded by a strong devoted family and a circle of caring friends. She attended school in the Waycross School System and graduated from Center High School in 1968. Her passion for education led her to dedicate 35 years of her life to shaping young minds as a beloved Early Head Start teacher at Concerted Services. As a woman with many skills, Nancy’s warmth and culinary talents were evident while also being employed as a Cook at Baptist Village for 34 years.

Nancy found pure delight in the simple but profound act of fishing with her beloved son, Terrell aka Scooter. Those serene moments by the water, filled with laughter and quiet reflection, were a cherished part of her life. She also reveled in her visits to California, where she embraced the joy of being with her darling son, Derrick and family, creating memories that will forever be treasured. And there was nothing like enjoyable times spent at the meat market with her daughter-in-law JoeAnn that helped turn Nancy’s love for cooking into a way of showing care for those around her. Nancy’s meals were more than just food; they were expressions of her heart, bringing family and friends together for a time of love and sharing. Beyond her passions, Nancy was a natural caregiver, always putting the needs of others above her own. Her nurturing spirit and selflessness were hallmarks of her character, and she loved doing all that she could for her children Terrell, Derrick, Moniquee, and Lorenzo and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her beautiful smile, kindness, joyful spirit and the love she gave to all were as a ray of sunshine to her close-knit family and many, many friends. Nancy shall forever be remembered because she leaves an indelible mark on countless lives throughout the community for her hard work and her beautiful soul.

Nancy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Pete and Mary Slaughter; and parental grandparents, Aggie Mae O'Neal and Gene Mercer; her parents, William and Annie Lee Slaughter Mercer; a sister, Christine Wilson; two brothers, William Jr. and Elroy Mercer; a daughter, Sherrice Moniquee Wilson; and a grandson, Lorenzo Wilson, Jr.

Left with cherished lifelong memories are her devoted children, Derrick (Jai) Wilson, Oxnard, CA, Terrell (JoeAnn) Wilson, Waycross, GA, and Lorenzo Wilson, Sr., Waycross, GA; her  siblings, Helen (Howard) Dunaway, Blackshear, GA, Reta Mercer, Waycross, GA, and Renita (Bruce) Allen, Jacksonville, FL; a host of adorable grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Please continue to keep the family in prayer.
