MRS. YVETTE HOLLMON Obituary

Sister Yvette Hollmon was the middle child born to Eveyln Reid and the late Lelon Reid.  She was born March 13, 1959, in Waycross, GA.  She received her formal education from Waycross Public School System where she and another student were the first black students to participate in the talent show at Gilchrist Park.  There they sang Want Ads and won the talent show. Yvette graduated from Waycross High School in 1978.  She also attended Ware Technical School where she received her certificate in child development.

At an early age Yvette became an active member of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church.  She participated in the youth choir and the junior mission.  As an adult she sang in the senior choir where she served as president, the Youth Director, Kitchen Staff and the Senior Mission auxiliary.  Yvette enjoyed serving as youth director of St. Peter’s, as she and the youth were actively engaged in many activities. Some to include visiting local nursing homes to sing and give out personal products, fruit baskets for the elderly, homeless mission feeding, and clothes give away, fundraisers, Easter program, Mother’s Day programs and summer trips. Yvette even started a youth bible study where she would teach the youth the lesson of the bible and feed them afterwards.

Yvette worked at Mrs. Ruth Strozier’s preschool for many years touched the lives of so many youths at an early age. She would later become employed with Satilla Regional Medical Center and Mayo Clinic which she worked until her health declined resulting in her early retirement.  However, Yvette did not let her health stop her from doing work, she would crochet hats and blankets for elderly, family members and newborn babies.  She was very active in the Walter’s Addition Community Club and the Bernard Benson Community Choir.  Yvette also baked for many church events and sang often.  Her most favorite job of all was spending time with her family and keeping her grandkids, doing almost anything they wanted to do.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, God called Yvette home to join her late husband Hicks Hollmon, her sisters: Florence Reid and Luverta Pender; and her father Lelon Reid.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Kenyatta Reid (Stacy), Prient Hollmon (Sheree), Symanthia Hollmon, Tasha Peterson (Zhaloyn) and Allen Hollmon (Brandi).  Her mother, Evelyn Reid, a sister Karen Carter, two brothers Ken Reid and Kevin Reid, 11 grandkids; Xavier, Kalaybria, Zhaloyn Jr, Aniya, Allen Jr., Collin, Aubri, Caniyah, Braden, Jayden, Michael, Micah and one special grandchild Giavonna Reid, whom she was raising.
