Mr. William Thomas Tucker was born May 24, 1936, to the late Mr. Melvin Woodson Tucker and Mrs. Frances Walton Tucker in Waycross, Georgia.
William was educated in the Waycross Public School System where he attended BaileyStreet and Northside Elementary Schools and later Center High School.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church.
After high school, William worked various jobs prior to becoming employed with Mark Dunning Industries where he was the supervisor of the Roads and Grounds Maintenance crew at the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in St. Mary’s, Georgia. During his tenure, William was recognized as “Employee of the Year” and received a Quality Award for his direction, leadership, and attention to quality, and for improving the overall appearance of the grounds. Upon completion of 30 years of service, he retired in 2012 at 76 years old.
William was united in holy matrimony to Valencia Harris Tucker on October 2, 1987, who preceded him in death along with his parents; son, Clarence Harris; brother, James Melvin Tucker; and son-in-law, Delvin (Dwayne) Hughes.
As his health began to fail, he moved to Clewiston, Florida with his devoted daughter, Shuntee Hughes who was his caretaker.
William was fun-loving and had a great love for family; he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and cousin. Though he will be greatly missed, he leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Shuntee Hughes, Denise Moses (Melvin), Anita Washington, Andrea Ross and Treesomia Walker (David); son, Stephen Harris (Stefanie); devoted sister, Gwendolyn (Margie) Jamison; devoted grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Nelkeya Wood, Latrelle Washington, and Dylen Hughes; sisters-in-law, Lena Tucker, Susan Gibbs, and Penelope Taylor (Burnar), and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
