Missionary Elsie Mae Smith Denton was born September 26, 1956 in Waycross, Georgia to Minnie Lee Hawkins Smith and the late William James Smith, Sr. She received her formal education from the Waycross Public School System and graduated from Waycross High School in 1974. She continued her education by obtaining a degree in nursing.
She was a faithful member of First Born Church of the Living God, where she was a member of the missionary ministry. She worked in the health care industry for several years.
Missionary Denton departed this life on Wednesday November 11, 2020 at Memorial Satilla Health. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by three siblings, Rhonda Carlene Smith, Viviette Patricia Roberts, and Willard McCarthy; a granddaughter, Briana Mangram; and a great grandson, Scott McCall.
Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Minnie Lee Smith of Waycross; children, KaShae Vonnette Smith, Rhonda Carlene Lane, LeRoy Hosea Lane and Domonick Studivent; Brothers, William J. Smith Jr. of Hinesville,Ga., Deacon Frank Smith (Shirley), Kenneth Smith of Waycross, Ga., Clifford Smith of Blakshear,Ga., Bryan Smith and Christopher Smith of Brunswick,Ga.; a god brother, Ronald Smith of Douglas, Ga.; sisters, Joanny Oglesby, Sheila Baldwin, Marie Smith, Cathy Wilson (Carroll), Sandra Smith all of Waycross and Vonzine Daveport (Lawrence) of McDonough, Ga.; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; numerous of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at First Born Church of the Living God, 1120 H.J. Echols Drive, Waycross,Ga. with her pastor, Bishop Michael Flynn Sr., giving words of comfort.
Public visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fluker Funeral Home, 985 Ossie Davis Parkway, Waycross, GA. Interment will be in Hazzard Hill Cemetery.
