Mrs. Joann Skull

JoAnn Rogers Skull was born on August 21, 1952, in Waycross (Ware County), GA. Her parents were the late Deacon Joseph W. and Deaconess Lona M. Rogers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; James Edward McDuffie and Johnny Mumford.

At the age of 8, she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend E.J. Junior. She was a member of the Junior Ushers Ministry and at age 12 she joined the Junior Choir Ministry and served as the Recording Secretary for Sunday School.

In 2005, after years of traveling with her family, she moved back to Waycross to faithfully care for her father. Upon returning to Waycross, she reunited with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Fer-Rell M. Malone, Sr.  She sang with the Voices of Macedonia and the Generational Choirs. She also served as a teacher for Sunday School Ministry and Coordinator and Secretary of the Seniors Ministry.

JoAnn was educated in the Waycross City School System. She attended Bailey Street Elementary School from 1st grade through 7th grade; 8th grade at Center Jr. High School, which was later, named McDonald Street Middle School. She attended Center High School grades 9th through 11th and finished 12th grade at Waycross Adult Education. The Waycross High School class of 1970 was her classmates.

Her continuing education included: Secretarial Diploma from Blair Business College in Colorado Springs, CO in 1975; Data Processing Accounting Clerk, with honors, from Coastal Training Institute in Mobile, AL in 1986; HIT Magna Cum Laud graduate from Darton College in Albany, GA in December 2011.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sons; Anthony W. Skull (Alycia) of Birmingham, AL, Patrick B. Skull (Yolanda) of El Paso, TX, and Johann D. Skull (Paula) of Chesapeake, VA. Grandchildren; Anthony Michael Skull, William Matthew Skull, Sharica Snowden, Kevin Armstrong, Genesis A. Skull, Abriyah S. Skull, Dominique Wilson, Michelle A. Skull, Christian D. Skull and Michael Kent. Great grandchildren; Shaniya Snowden, Shaelyn, Snowden and Shamari Snowden. Siblings; Jolene Johnson (Diago) of Atlanta, FA, Carolyn Miller of Waycross, GA, Aretha Mumford Green and Alice Mumford Daniels both of Douglas, GA, Willie J. Mumford (Geraldine) and Howard Mumford both of Nicholls, GA and Larry Phelps of Jacksonville, FL. Those that were so lovingly supportive to her during her illness include her cousins Virginia (Yancey) Durham, Peggy (Lamont) Hairston and Aretha Mumford Green; and her friends; Minister Penelope (Penny) and Deacon Burnar Taylor, Tammy Otts and Sis. Kecia Malone; a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends. A very special thanks to everyone that was a blessing to her during her illness. God Bless You All!!
