Sis. Sarah Lee Strickland Weatherspoon was born September 4, 1952 in Jesup (Wayne County), Georgia to the late Clarence Strickland and Louise Ogden Strickland. She grew up in Waycross (Ware County), Georgia where she received her formal education.
She was the head cook for many years at Holiday Inn restaurant and the Riverside nursing Home both in Waycross.
Sarah Lee loved to cook and enjoyed time with family and fun vacations with her children and their families. Sunday dinner was a must for Sarah Lee and she loved cooking for her husband and sons.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Willie James Weatherspoon Jr. and this union was blessed with four sons : Willie James lll, Terry Lee, Jerry Lee and Kevin Jerome.
Early Saturday morning December 19, 2020 God called her from her earthly home to her heavenly home. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six siblings : Herbert Smith, James McKnight, Alfonzo McKnight, Mary Strickland, Dorothy Cobb and Ida Mae Rawls.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Willie James Weatherspoon Jr. of Waycross ; her sons : Willie James Weatherspoon ll (Nikki) of Douglas, Ga., Terry Lee Weatherspoon Sr. (Artelia) of Waycross, Jerry Lee Weatherspoon Sr. (Melanie ) of Perry, Ga. and Kevin Jerome Weatherspoon of Waycross; grandchildren whom she loved dearly : Willie lV, Whitley, Jacob, Jymon, Terry Jr., Aaron, T'Keya, Jerry ll, Joshua, Jeremiah ,Deonte, Kyra, Kevin, Ke’Vonte, Kai and Kamden; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Elouise Strickland, Deloris Gordon, Darrell Strickland all of Waycross and Steve McKnight of Homerville, Ga.: special nieces, Angela McClendon , Sharon Fullwood both of Waycross, Ga. Paula Lane (Willie), Andrea Collins (Anthony) and Angelina Small all of Jacksonville; special nephew, Clifford Gordon of Waycross, Ga. ; other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be held Tuesday December 22, 2020 in Oakland Cemetery 2410 Alice Street with Dr. Berwyn Lamar bring words of comfort. Public visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fluker Funeral Home 985 Ossie Davis Parkway Waycross, Georgia.
